Specialty Coffee in Asia

Asia is a specialty coffee powerhouse. Not only can you find excellent single origin beans from many parts of Southeast Asia, but the colder countries are home to some of the most dedicated roasters and coffee shops ever. Sure, you can find your standard coffee all over, and of course a place as technologically advanced and creative as Japan has created myriad ways to prepare coffee, but there also seem to be pour overs available in significantly more coffee shops here (and that all take it seriously) than in any one place anywhere else in the world. A coffee-first trip is absolutely worth it for most countries on our list here, and the bonus is you get to explore some of the most interesting places around. While I may have only just begun my immersion into this wonderland way too late in my lifetime, I cannot wait to see what I come across next. Use this page as the jumping off point to dig into more info on individual cities and regions where coffee excels in Asia, and even if it has competition from tea or anything else, you can certainly find a nice pour over or single origin espresso during your travels.
