How to Brew with Munieq Tetra Drip

A Guide to Brewing the Perfect Cup

An Introduction

MUNIEQ, which stands for minimal unique equipment, creates a small selection of products focused on the outdoors. The Tetra Drip is one of their main items that is just about as minimal as you can get with coffee equipment, short of literally mixing coffee grounds with boiling water like in cowboy coffee. The three separate walls that are attached together to form this pour over dripper’s triangular shape are just slightly larger than a credit card. Now that is one portable pour over system! The Tetra Drip is not the most technical of pour over methods, but it still serves up a delicious cup of coffee and can be taken literally anywhere.

*Read on to learn how to make MUNIEQ Tetra Drip coffee the quick and easy way, without weighing or measuring anything. While the meticulous recipes used at coffee shops are incredible and in my opinion bring out the absolute best flavors from every bean and roast, and are my favorite way to drink coffee, when I’m at home making my own daily cup(s), I prefer the easy way and leave the rest to the pros at my favorite coffee shops.

MUNIEQ Tetra Drip
Hario v60 paper filters
Whole coffee beans
Coffee grinder
Gooseneck kettle
Filtered water
Coffee mug

Instructions

Step 1

Boil 2.5 cups of filtered water. While you’re waiting, grind a single scoop of coffee beans (approximately 2 tbsp) to a medium-fine level of coarseness. Once ready, assemble the Tetra Drip by inserting the three pieces into each other until they form a triangular cone.

Step 3

Unfold the Hario paper filter, place the stitched portion into one of the Tetra Drip’s corners, and crease the filter in two places so that it forms a rough triangular shape and sits somewhat flush with the dripper.

Step 4

Lightly wet the filter to remove the paper taste, and dump the water afterwards. Due to the Tetra Drip’s small size, the top of the filter might droop over the top in some places. Don’t worry about it.

Step 5

Place the coffee grounds into the middle of the Tetra Drip, shake it to level the grounds, and create a small well in the middle of the grounds. This helps achieve the bloom upon first pour. Using the gooseneck kettle, slowly pour water first into the well, and slowly in an expanding circle around it until just the coffee is wet, avoiding direct water contact with the paper if possible. Wait 30 seconds while the coffee blooms.

Step 6

Slowly pour more water in circles over the grounds, this time allowing the water to rise higher than the top level of coffee but still not pouring water directly on the paper, until the Tetra Drip is almost completely full of water. Allow the water to filter through. Repeat this step over and over until you have as much coffee as you want in your cup. Remove the paper filter full of grounds and throw away, as well as quickly rinse the Tetra Drip and allow to dry.
