Specialty Coffee in Osaka
Osaka Coffee Culture
Osaka is top of the food culture food chain in Japan. Around seemingly every corner you can find something to satiate the most demanding of cravings, and then some. There is also plenty of history to absorb, and yet, the city feels so modern at the same time. The third largest city in Japan, you can certainly expect it has at least a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy, and coffee is no exception. While certain neighborhoods contain higher concentration of third wave coffee shops, there is enough of a spread to find a great cup of pour over in Osaka just about anywhere you look. The great thing is the coffee community is close knit, with various baristas splitting off and opening up new specialty coffee shops, and rather than heavily competing, they go and support each other and recommend each other. If you’re in Osaka for just about any reason, even if it’s just a stopover on the way to your next destination, venture into town and try out a pour over from one of these coffee shops.
Best Pour Over Coffee Shops in Osaka

LiLo Coffee Roasters
I had tried coffee beans from LiLo Coffee Roasters at Kumquat in Los Angeles which was great, but boy did visiting their Osaka home lift them to one of my favorite coffee shops ever. They offer a lengthy menu of coffee beans from around the world, colorful tasting note cards that tell you exactly what you should be sipping for, and even more info about the specific barista who made your cup of specialty coffee. And having a chat with my barista about what exactly made my choice so special, made my day after exploring town.

SOT Coffee Roaster
What sets SOT Coffee Roaster apart is their pour over experience. Any bean you order, you will receive in hot form in a mug, as well as an extra batch alongside a glass with ice and a to pour yourself a cold version of the same coffee after you’ve downed the hot one. While some places try to give you a pour over on ice, it typically ends up watered down and/or losing most of its unique flavor properties. At SOT however, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the cold and hot versions were almost exactly the same, with every brilliant flavor note shining through even cold!

ue.
Simple and elegant styling with just enough space to be intimate and not overbearing, ue. coffee provides just the right specialty coffee experience in Osaka. Recommended to me by Orine at LiLo, I happily made my way over here and was delighted to find yet another incredible pour over coffee here. ue. is relatively new on the Osaka coffee scene as a stop but the owner has been a major player for some time, and the experience shows. Give this one a shot and you will not be disappointed.

Ult Coffee
Ult Coffee was created by the World Barista Champion of 2023 so if that doesn’t make your decision for you already, then just make your way over and let your taste buds be the judge. You can’t go wrong with whatever coffee bean you pick at Ult, but might as well just share your flavor preferences with your barista and let them wow you with what is sure to be a moving experience.

Mel Coffee Roasters
Mel Coffee Roasters makes a commitment to sustainability, never roasting more than demand requires, with the ultimate goal of reducing waste while simultaneously maintaining a high quality threshold. In a world where rising temperatures and rising prices threaten the very existence of coffee in the long-term, Mel’s approach is admirable, and their coffee excellent. Show your support and stop for what is likely to be one of many pour over coffees in the same day in Osaka.

NOTEQUAL COFFEE by dripclassic
NOTEQUAL COFFEE makes a statement from the get go with its very name, and they might just have a point. Specialty coffee in Osaka is just as amazing as its food scene, if not necessarily as plentiful, and NOTEQUAL is a major contributor. The focus is on giving each customer the opportunity to design their cup of coffee however they most like it, rather than passing judgment one way or another, so follow the steps through the menu and the barista will make your ultimate selection the absolute best it can be.
