North America Episodes
Mexico City
In Mexico City, you’ll encounter no shortage of excellent coffee, with certain neighborhoods being home to a specialty coffee shop every few blocks. CDMX will introduce you to variety of different brewing methods and the commitment to Mexican grown beans.
San Diego
Just about every blog and website can’t resist talking about San Diego without the word “Sunny” in front of it. While there is certainly lots of sun, I can’t stop talking about its coffee, from warehouses to city streets and beachside small town vibes, SD is home to some excellent coffee.
San Francisco Bay Area
The Bay Area along with San Francisco itself, is jam-packed with people from all over thanks to the growth of Silicon Valley and tech, and fortunately the opportunity to grab a great cup of coffee has matched the population growth, up and down the peninsula and across the Bay.
Guadalajara
Guadalajara, Guadalajara, how you surprise and delight. Known for many of the most emblematic Mexican exports like tequila and mariachi music, Guadalajara is also home to a passionate coffee community led by a group of best-in-class roasters and baristas.
Los Angeles
LA is one of the most visited, talked about, lived in, and idolized places on Earth, for many reasons. A place so versatile and populated has to have good coffee, right?
Phoenix
You may wonder how good the coffee scene can be in Arizona considering the sweltering heat for much of the year, but caffeine is needed anyway, and the hot beverages in the morning make way for cold brew and iced coffee in the afternoon. Phoenix will surprise you.
Seattle
The de facto hot spot of coffee in the United States due to the prominence of a certain global chain, Seattle’s small local coffee shops strewn throughout every neighborhood are where the magic really happens.
Portland
Portland, like its Pacific Northwest counterpart, is another excellent hub of great coffee to keep you warm and caffeinated during the frequently rainy days. Nothing hits better than a hot cup of coffee followed by any of an endless array of available outdoor activities.
Bend
Bend is perfectly situated to take advantage of both summer and winter activities, and far enough from western Oregon to have plenty of sunshine and a unique vibe. There may not be endless options, but those that are in Bend do not disappoint.
Boise
Boise may seem like a random place to go in search of top notch craft coffee, but in reality, you would be missing out if you flew in just to head straight to the ski resorts without stopping by one of the many great downtown cafés.
Ciudad Obregón
Obregón is home to the best carne asada in Mexico, located in the Saguaro desert in the North, far from the Southern coffee-producing regions, but you can try the best of both worlds and stop by a unique specialty coffee shop.
New York
New York is without a doubt the most popular place in the United States, and while one might expect that to mean it has an endless supply of great coffee shops, that theory only really holds up for espresso drinks, which are easy enough to find. Here, however, we will unveil the best coffee shops to slow down in this constantly moving city with a cup of pour over coffee.
Holbox
Holbox is a paradise. Far off (for now) from the reaches of perennial tourist traps of Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, a long bus ride and a ferry hop separate this island with only a few paved roads from the rest of Quintana Roo. Fortunately, you won’t be isolated from great coffee as one establishment in particular has set up shop to keep you going in between long stints at the beach.
San Cristóbal de las Casas
Chiapas has always been at the forefront of Mexican coffee growing regions. While many other states in Mexico now grow coffee too, Chiapas is the leader. San Cristóbal is a wonderful town in the mountains with some excellent coffee to boot.
Austin
Austin’s coffee scene is just as diverse as the many activities you can enjoy there. From converted homes, to bike shops, to Aussie coffee shop transplants, you can find coffee and something just about everywhere you look.
Boston
Boston has a lot going for it already, but add to that an entertaining coffee scene and you have a fun, varied New England experience to take in between all the seafood and Irish-influenced cuisine.
Miami
Of course you should try the Cuban coffee on your trip to Miami, but the Miami coffee scene has even more on offer for those who look to find it. Give it a shot and you’ll find much to love no matter if you want a cortadito or a pour over.
