An Introduction
The v60 is known as one of the most popular pour over methods in the world. Created by Hario in Japan, it is one of the standards for its ability to extract unique flavors. Available in ceramic, porcelain, metal, copper and plastic models, there is a v60 for you whether you prefer an at-home or light travel version.
*Read on to learn how to make Hario v60 coffee the quick and easy way, without weighing or measuring anything. While the meticulous recipes used at coffee shops are incredible and in my opinion bring out the absolute best flavors from every bean and roast, and are my favorite way to drink coffee, when I’m at home making my own daily cup(s), I prefer the easy way and leave the rest to the pros at my favorite coffee shops.

What you’ll Need:
Hario v60
Hario v60 paper filters
Whole coffee beans
Coffee grinder
Gooseneck kettle
Filtered water
Coffee mug
Instructions
Step 1
Boil 2.5 cups of filtered water. While you’re waiting, grind a single v60 scoop of coffee beans (approximately 3 tbsp) to a medium-fine level of coarseness.
Step 2
Mount the v60 on your coffee mug, or a carafe if you have one, and unfold the Hario paper filter, creasing it so it stays put in the v60. Lightly wet the entire filter to remove the paper taste, and dump the water afterwards.
Step 3
Place the coffee grounds into the middle of the v60, shake the v60 to level the grounds, and create a small well in the middle of the grounds. This helps achieve the bloom upon first pour.
Step 4
Using the gooseneck kettle, slowly pour water first into the well, and slowly in an expanding circle around it until just the coffee is wet, avoiding direct water contact with the paper if possible. Wait 30 seconds while the coffee blooms.
Step 5
Slowly pour more water in circles over the grounds, this time allowing the water to rise higher than the top level of coffee but still not pouring water directly on the paper, until the v60 is above halfway full of water. Allow the water to filter through.
Step 6
Once again, slowly pour water in circles over the grounds, allowing the water to rise until the v60 is above 3/4 full of water, and you guessed it, avoiding the filter itself. Allow the water to filter through, then remove the paper filter full of grounds and throw away, as well as quickly rinse the v60 and allow to dry.
Step 7: Enjoy!
